Dear Fifth Grade Parents and Students,

Greetings from the Music Room!  We are ready to form our “Knight Singers” and hope that all of you want to be a part of this wonderful choir.  In the past we have had outstanding singers, and we know this year will be no exception.  Listed below are the qualifications to be a Knight Singer:

1.                  Be in the fifth grade at NCE

2.                  Enjoy singing and moving to music

3.                  Have a positive attitude

4.                  Be a team player; no behavior problems

5.                  Be committed to attending choir two mornings a week at 7:30 am

Although all of our students participate in general music class, there are many who want more.  Choir is the answer!!  There are many benefits that result from the study of music.  The aesthetic joys of music making cannot be duplicated in any other art form; it is a communication unto itself.  It also has been found that the study of music strengthens the mind’s learning potential.  The students who are part of a music program tend to achieve at higher levels in all areas of school. Simply put:  music makes better students, and music makes students better.

Choir can be used as a training ground for developing successful life-patterns.  The very qualities that are essential for success in business and education such as analytical skills, self-discipline, communication skills and creative thinking are the foundation blocks of our music program. What your child is learning in music and choir is preparing him/her for a more prosperous and enjoyable life.

Knight Singers will meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning in the music room at 7:30 am sharp. On Tuesday, September 25, at 7:30 am, we will meet for the first time.  If you have any interest in joining the choir, please be at this rehearsal to see what it’s all about.  After you have decided to join, you will receive a contract and uniform information sheet.

We will be singing many types of music this year. Because we respect and value the many cultures that are represented in our community, we sometimes sing various ethnic songs.  We choose songs for their musical qualities and appropriateness for our fifth grade students.  All music selections are approved through our principal, Mrs. Bourgeois, and are compliant with KISD regulations.

We are looking forward to having a wonderful choir this year.  Don’t miss out on being a part of this fabulous group!

Sing-cerely,

Miss Lawrence & Miss Ellis

Singing Knights Updated calendar for Spring of 2008

Welcome back to choir everyone !

We are off to a great start and are having fantastic attendance at our 5th grade choir rehearsals.

Thanks to everyone for getting to choir on time each rehearsal! You are developing a good habit of commitment that will greatly benefit you as you become known as a dependable teenager.

We have had to update our calendar for the Spring slightly and wanted to be sure you and your parents were aware of some changes.

We are rehearsing each week on Tuesday and Thursdays as normal except for Thursday February 14th when both Miss Lawrence and Miss Ellis will be attending the Texas State Music Teacher’s Association convention.

Please make  note that there will be no choir Thursday morning February 14th !

Also, the choir will not be singing at the Aeros Hockey game on Friday March 28th but we do want to encourage you to plan to attend with our NCE family on February 2 to enjoy the game & support the NCE PTA who uses this event as a fund raiser.

We are all looking forward to our Spring Choir Trip to Moody Gardens on Saturday March 29th.

Thanks to the generosity of our very own PTA we will only be paying $20.00 per person to participate in this fun filled day of singing and events !!!!!

That amount along with the PTA contribution will cover your bus transportation to and from Moody Gardens, as well as lunch, attractions and the IMAX presentation.

We are asking that you be at school on Saturday March 29 at 8:45 a.m. to check in.

We plan return to NCE around 4:30 p.m.

Please fill our the field trip permission slip and return it along with your $20.00
