We’re excited to remind you that this year our Spring Choir Trip is planned for SEA WORLD of TEXAS Saturday, April 4, 2009. (SAVE THE DATE) *****If you have not yet joined choir, please come & sing with us. You will need to know that the last day to join choir is January 27th.
If you have any questions please contact your music teacher Nancy Lawrence nancyclawrence@katyisd.org Candace Ellis candacemellis@katyisd.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October, 2008 Dear Singing Knight and Parents, We are off to a fantastic start with our wonderful NCE singers in fifth grade. We are so glad you have joined our Singing Knights 2008-2009. Membership in this group will be an enjoyable and personally satisfying learning experience for all. We are so very fortunate to have 4 certified Music teachers working with our students this year. WOW ! (Thanks to Mrs. Best and Mrs. Freeman, both former NCE music teachers who assist us.) Although all of our students participate in general music class, there are many who want more. Choir is the answer!! There are many benefits that result from the study of music. The aesthetic joys of music making cannot be duplicated in any other art form; it is a communication unto itself. It also has been found that the study of music strengthens the mind’s learning potential. The students who are part of a music program tend to achieve at higher levels in all areas of school. Simply put: music makes better students, and music makes students better. Choir can be used as a training ground for developing successful life-patterns. The very qualities that are essential for success in business and education such as analytical skills, self-discipline, communication skills and creative thinking are the foundation blocks of our music program. What your child is learning in music and choir is preparing him/her for a more prosperous and enjoyable life. We will be singing many types of music this year. Because we respect and value the many cultures that are represented in our community, we sometimes sing various ethnic songs. We choose songs for their musical qualities and appropriateness for our fifth grade students. All music selections are approved through our principal, Mrs. Bourgeois, and are compliant with KISD regulations. We have several fun opportunities for you this year including performing for our very own NCE carnival on November 14th, 2008 and our annual December Holiday tour on December 12th, 2008. (*More details later regarding our Spring field trip on Saturday April 4th, 2009.) NCE Singing Knights will be expected to make a 100% commitment by working diligently, having exemplary behavior, and maintaining passing grades in all subjects, including conduct. We will meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. Because of our short rehearsal time, it is imperative that all students be on time for rehearsals. Before making your commitment to the choir, please consider the time commitment carefully. Attendance will be taken. 1. Choir Contract: Parents, please read and discuss this contract with your child. Sign and return the contract by Oct 30, 2008. 2. Uniform information: You will be required to order a choir shirt and provide a uniform. This includes the choir t-shirt , black pants, black shoes and socks. All students must wear the correct uniform to perform with the group.
3. Shirt Order Form: We will be sending home an order form for you soon. We are looking forward to a great choir year at NCE. Thank you for the opportunity of working with your children and for your support. We need several Moms to volunteer to help make occasional treats. If interested, please email me at NancyCLawrence@katyisd.org. (Be sure to put in my middle initial “C” or it will not work.) *****We would like to have your email address so that we can contact you with information as needed. Please include that information on our contract. We want choir to be a great time for all of us. By the way, this year we are asking that you drop your child off for choir in the front of the school, rather than in the back drive. Thanks for your help with this. Please feel free to visit us anytime during rehearsal after checking in with the front office. (We love to show off.) Sing-cerely, Miss Lawrence & Miss Ellis NCE Music Specialists |
